The Story of The 69th Infantry Website
Help fund the Website and be recognized!
The 69th
Infantry Website got started almost by accident. In February 2000, the late Harold Ruck, Co I 272nd Inf Rgt,
then President of the "Fighting 69th Infantry Division Association,
Inc," sent a note to Joe Lipsius, Hq 272nd Inf Rgt who was serving as
Reunion Chairman for the 53rd Annual Reunion of the 69th to be held in Atlanta,
Georgia in Aug 2000. The note was
from another 69er questioning why the 69th did not have a Website as many
Division Associations did. Ruck
asked Lipsius if he knew what needed to be done and if he was interested.
Lipsius agreed to look into the matter.
On April
23, 2000, with agreement from the Association's President and Treasurer to
supply a beginning minimal amount of $200.00 to an acquaintance of Lipsius who
was an expert in Website creation, the 69th Infantry Website was born.
Lipsius was designated Webmaster, a name common for the director of a
Website.
A full
report of the Website was made at the Directors and Membership Meetings at the
Reunion in Atlanta and is in bulletin VOLUME NO 54 NO. 2, Jan-Apr 2001.
There was no dissent at either Meeting.
In August
2000, Amy Rose, daughter-in-law of the late Morton Rose, 3rd Battalion Surgeon,
273rd Inf Rgt, volunteered her journalism experience to edit and type as needed.
Rose was given the honorary title of Assistant Editor.
In January 2001, James K. Richardson , Co B 272nd Inf Rgt, contacted the
Website offering his considerable Website creation skills.
With the help of Rose and Richardson, soon there was no longer the need
for the expert, and his minimal charges. Richardson
became the Co-Webmaster and Technical Engineer, Rose became Editor.
One of the
Association's leaders asserted that the Website's funding had not been properly
approved and it should not be supported by the Association because so many
members did not have computers. He
suggested the Website ask bulletin readers for donations to sustain its
costs.
The
Website team took this suggestion but in a slightly different manner.
First, it donated funds for at least a year's operation.
Then, it started a Self Funding program, through the the Website only. Donations were sought In Memory Of a deceased 69er, or
In Honor Of a living 69er, or, a donation could be made by name only.
The 69er's Unit would be recognized but the amount donated would not.
Other means to secure donations would be used if proper and available.
Funds are
needed to pay for the Website's space, exclusive name, ad-free Guest Book and
technical costs as they may arise. Make
your donation in any amount. Send
